Matthew & Colleen’s Engagement Photography Session {St. Joseph Michigan Photographer}

I had a wonderful relaxing evening recently walking around St. Joseph, Michigan with Matthew and Colleen. We “met in the middle” at St. Joe. They live in Chicago and I of course came from Kalamazoo. The weather was perfect for an engagement session. I met Colleen years ago at her brother and sweet sister in law’s wedding…I remember how much I loved that wedding for it’s yellow and gray colors and style, and I remember being pregnant and hot.:)

I am so honored that Colleen thought of me when it was her turn to get married. I am so looking forward to their wedding this coming Fall.

One of Matthew’s favorite pass times is fishing. So we tried to incorporate that into the session.:)So peaceful and romantic looking, but as we all know there is the “behind the scenes” …the wind was blowing, the water was FRIGID, and poor Colleen had to keep an eye on those waves as they kept want to get her wet. Ahhh….good times!!:)

Such a cute couple and I love how they were up for anything and just enjoyed relaxing and snuggling together in front of the camera.

I love our Michigan Sunsets….we are so blessed to be on this side of Lake Michigan and see this every night.

Marshall: Nine months old {Kalamazoo Baby Photography}

I have been photographing this handsome little guy and his big brother for several years now. Marshall was not a fan of his photo shoot….however you can tell he has a sweet little spirit to him because despite the resistance….he gave us the cutest facial expressions. He loves to suck his thumb and snuggle his bunny….just too adorable. Looking forward to their big family session at Lake Michigan this Summer!!

Premo Hair Designs LLC {Kalamazoo Photographer}

Name: Mindy Premo

Business Name : Premo Hair Designs LLC

Website/Blog : www.mindypremo.com

Describe your business :

I am an editorial hairstylist who specializes in makeovers. I work to create a look that fits your lifestyle all the while taking in consideration your face shape, color and texture.

What’s the one thing that everyone should know about you?

I am an educator for TIGI Professional and TIGI product stockist. What is that? I understand and recommend a product formula exactly right for the best hair everyday of your life!:)

How long have you been in business and how did you get started?

I’ve been in the hair business for 15 years and still love it! I got my start with my sisters at a very young age, braiding, curling, makeup and flat ironing with a clothing iron and board, lol to funny when I think how we managed to get it done before heading off to school at 7am. I became a licensed cosmetologist during high school through a co-op program and started continuing education immediately after through the salons where I work. I started on the educator path while working in Kalamazoo in 2005. Training in New York, Dallas and Santa Monica, CA.

Does your specialty require special training?

Absolutely, you cannot compete with the best unless you stay current and educated. I take several courses during the year travel to shows, work backstage on stage, teach/train and stay committed to learning something new every year.

What change are you looking most forward to this year…both professionally and personally?

I would like to focus more efforts toward learning new coloring techniques professionally and personally I’d like to try karaoke. If I could get over my own singing voice, carrying a tune is a little different from your talking voice.

If you were given $500 today, what would be the first thing you would do?

I would go buy an iPad 4. I’ve been meaning to retire my 17 inch HP it’s quite the load to carry around with me when I have “writing” to do.

Where do you go to find inspiration?

I like coffee houses and music venues. There is so much to look at and draw inspiration from with your peers. Young and old.;)

What is a great tip or quick bit of advice you can give us?

Be nice to your hair, brushing three times a day encourages growth and lots of good feelings all throughout your body.

What is the favorite thing you like about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is developing a lasting relationship that otherwise wouldn’t have happened.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I can parallel park with the best of them.

Tell us about your family :

I am the second daughter of four girls.When I was 12 years old my mom and dad were hit by a drunk driver leaving my mother  paralyzed from the neck down. My dad was okay but our lives sure did change. The immediate family took care rehabilitating her and the home where I grew up and now my sister, dad and one nurse take turns caring for her round the clock. I travel back home once a month to help out and connect with all of them. I hope to have a my own family someday and am quite happy with my boyfriend here in Kalamazoo, MI.

How do you get a connection between you and your client?

We usually connect outside of the hair realm. Something about our personalities or areas of interest sparks the connection.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Happily making Southwest Michigan beautiful and having fun with my family.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I would like to attempt a CSI position. They have to detect problems and find solutions and it seems adventurous!

What profession would you not like to do?

I would not like to be a doctor. I’m great with the outside but anything inside(s) freaks me out.

What is one thing that can just “make your day”?

A call from a loved one.

What is the main goal in your business?

The main goal within my business is to create beauty from an already existing feature. I work toward enhancing you, finding the glow and your individual spark.

What is your favorite restaurant in Kalamazoo?

There are many but right now, Food Dance. They offer farm fresh options and serve amazing coffee!

Do you have any specials or first time offers for us?

Mention this article for $5 off your first haircut or color.

Anything else you would like to say?

I want to sincerely thank Melissa Gregersen at Gregersen Photography for giving me the opportunity to be listed on the website and while working together on our project for senior photo shoot sessions.

Sarah & Jeremie {Kalamazoo Area Wedding Photography}

Jeremie and Sarah were a pure joy to work with on their wedding day. It was a perfect way to start off my 2013 wedding season. They are part of my Northbridge Church family…so the whole day I was surrounded by loved ones. I want to give a big shout out to my buddy and photography mentor, Holly Henderson, for second shooting with me. She made my day easy and so fun.

Sarah and Jeremie, I wish you both only the best as you follow God’s will for your lives together. Hugs to you both!
