Nicole and Brandon chose to have their wedding at his grandparent’s home and property and when we arrived, we could see why. It was a gorgeous place, and they were so welcoming! There is something all the more sentimental knowing you are getting married on land owned by people that love you and are supporting your marriage. Their wedding reception was at Old Dog Tavern in downtown Kalamazoo.

I reached out to the happy couple to ask them some fun questions about their wedding day and them as a couple….the answers are below!!

I hope that Nicole and Brandon enjoy their sneak peak….I LOVE their wedding images, and hope they do too!

Please tell us your love story….

Brandon and I met at work, he asked me for my number infront of my boss actually. We did not go out right away, and on our first date he took me to The Principle on Kalamazoo Mall. In the first month together we played 3 rounds of golf and drove to Detroit for a tigers game–and being saved by my brother in law with help changing a flat tire. We have been together for a little over 2 years. 4-9-17 is our dating anniversary.

Was there an official proposal?

I came home from my first day of interviews for my store opening. I told him the only thing that could get any better at the moment was if I was already engaged to him. He ran upstairs and to the living room with a little box. He got on one knee, and I was ignoring and laughing at him the whole time because I thought he was joking. Inside the box was the ring box, and then my ring.

Backstory: About 3 weeks prior he found a little pink eraser that looked like a diamond ring and sent a text to me saying ” I picked out your ring”. I thought the eraser was inside the box when he came downstairs and not the real ring. 🙂

What characteristic to you love most about each other?

  • Nicole: I love his charisma. I love how his big goofy smile just lights up the whole room and immediately makes me feel calmer/happier. It’s infectious.
  • Brandon: I love how adventurous she is. She is always keeping me guessing and never ceases to surprise me.

What are some fun things you love to do together?

We love to explore, we climbed a mountain 3 months into our relationship and have been traveling and exploring any place we go. Very avid golfers, and DIY homeowners-purchased our home just under 2 years ago. Brandon tends to the lawn, Nicole does landscape and interior décor.

What was the best memory of your wedding day for each of you?

  • Nicole: My favorite wedding was looking into brandon’s eyes and trying to make him cry while I read my vows. It was a competition to see who would cry first, I actually lost.
  • Brandon: The sun coming out at the perfect moment, just in time to be announced and for the first kiss.

Why did you choose your wedding venue?

We chose our wedding venue because it was unique and important to us to incorporate our family.

Describe the feeling of your wedding day as you look back.

Excited–had to keep reminding ourselves to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Did your wedding day incorporate any special history, hobbies or passions that are special to you both?

No history–ceremony showcases Nicole’s love for crafting with everything being made by hand or constructed with other pieces. Old Dog showcased our love for cornhole and playing games/ family reunion style instead of dancing. Even though Brandon is a VERY good dancer.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to stay at Water Fire Winery. It was an Airbnb near Torch Lake. We enjoyed spending time in the Torch Lake area, Traverse City, Bellaire and Elk Rapids.

If there was one thing you could change about the day what would it be?

Honestly, not that much. It was very different than what we were originally planning, but it was all worth it.

Wedding Reception at Old Dog Tavern

What is your biggest accomplishment together so far? Ex. overcoming a difficult experience, accomplishing college together, or just getting married!

Climbing a mountain (angel’s landing-zion), Buying a home, getting married!

Any advice to other bride and grooms out there?

If you’re going to make your own things–start way earlier than you think so you have less to do the last month. I made everything and had it mostly planned out 6 months prior, and coasted the last few months until I came up with new things to add of course!

Please add a wonderful special memory if you would like…

We have had many car troubles, so many in fact that I made it a point to incorporate that in my vows. 2 flat tires; both Brandon’s car, both times saved by Brent (Nicole’s BIL).

A car accident on 9.1.17. All of those times were within the first 5 months of dating. If we can make it through all of that–we can make it through ANY frustrating time.

Please list the top three priorities in your life as a couple together now. Things you will strive for together each day….

1. Finish our home projects (slowly)

2. Golf in South Carolina

3. Travel outside of the U.S.

Thank you Nicole and Brandon for being so kind and gracious to us on your day. It’s truly one I won’t forget. 😉 I so enjoyed working with both of you and your family and friends. You know where to find me when those cute babies start coming!!!
