Shelby and Tyler were two of the kindest souls I have photographed in a long time. I can’t put my finger on what it is that just made me feel so incredibly comfortable with them. They just have that very approachable kindness that I am sure their friends and family can account for and feel often!
They were married at the gorgeous Southern Exposure in Battle Creek, Michigan. I always love photographing weddings there through the years for many reasons, but the main one is the beauty of this venue. Its full of flowers, nature, charm and that old farm feel.

We met as interns at work and started out as immediate best friends. People thought we had known each other for years. After a month, we decided to start a relationship and two weeks into the relationship we were already knew we would marry each other. Everything was so easy. After that summer internship, we did one year of long distance while he went to CMU and I went to NMU. We graduated and are both working at the same accounting firm we interned at. We got engaged a few months after graduating and got married two years and one month after the day we starting dating.
We went up to Northern Michigan University, Shelby’s college, to recruit for our firm in the September of 2016. It was a beautiful day and we went on a gorgeous hike like we had many times when I attended the school. While looking out at Lake Superior from a gorgeous cliff, I turned around to see Tyler on one knee and he asked me to marry him. Neither one of us were surprised when I said yes 🙂
Shelby – I love Tyler’s fantastic sense of humor. He makes me laugh so many times every day. Also, he is the most genuinely kind person I know. He always puts a smile on the faces of those around him and lifts up others rather than have the attention on himself. He is a truly good man.
Tyler – The characteristic that I love most about Shelby is how fun and full of life she is. Since we’ve been together, it seems like we have a new adventure every time we are together. I have countless memories of weekends and trips with her that always make me smile when I think of them.
Shelby – I loved laughing and talking with Tyler and I’s friends and visiting with other guests. The day was so special and I really enjoyed the spirit of everyone coming together to celebrate Tyler and I’s commitment to each other. However, my favorite moment was when Tyler and I left the party to lay in the grass alone for a short while. We looked up at the old tree above us and just smiled as we talked about how happy we were.
Tyler – My favorite memory of the wedding day was sneaking away for a few minutes to lay down in the grass and take a few moments for ourselves.
Nothing! We both had such a great time and would love to relive the whole day.
Enjoy the day! Don’t worry about talking to every single guest. If you do, you won’t have any time to enjoy yourself and your spouse. Odds are you know all of your guests anyways and see most of them occasionally anyways. They will understand you are busy.
We traveled all around Spain. We got to experience different climates, geography, and populations. We had a great time and loved learning about the culture.
Hiking, traveling, spending time with family, visiting my grandparents house on a lake in Traverse City.
Our biggest accomplishment is our commitment and respect towards each other. We are best friends and love each other deeply. Being together has always felt right and we are looking forward to enjoying each other for many years to come.
We have talked about this and the most important things to us are respect, honesty, and cherishing each other.
