In 1999, I moved to Kalamazoo, MI for my then job at Borgess Hospital as a Physical Therapist Assistant….and now, Kalamazoo is my home! I settled into a new church, Northeastern Baptist Church where I had some really close connections. It was there that I vaguely remember a young girl named…Megan. Fast forward, 18 years (gulp, is that right??)….and Megan found me through another connection and then we all remember how connection at Northeastern. So so fun and providential. Another fun bit of information, my husband, Jayme, and I were married at Northeaster Baptist Church AND we also had our wedding reception at Sherman Lake! It was really sweet to walk down memory lane while photographing Megan and AJ’s wedding that day! All that to say, enjoy their sneak peak….these two are the cutest couple, full of easy laughs and giggles and make ANYONE feel like a friend. Their wedding day was COLD, but honestly….perfect.

We both met during our freshman year at GVSU. I knew AJ through some mutual friends and he saw that I was studying alone in the dorm lounge and offered to help me study (so sweet). He still helps me study to this day (I’m in graduate school now)! We reconnected through playing ultimate frisbee the beginning of sophomore year and became friends before we started dating. As of now we have been together a little over 4 years.

Yes! He proposed on January 4th, 2017. He chose that day because my favorite number is 4 and my favorite month is January, which makes the date very memorable. He started by handing me a rose when I got into his car. He then took me to a nice Italian restaurant, we got some ice cream (yum), and then we walked around some cute shops in downtown Big Rapids. The day he proposed there was a big snowstorm which was perfect because I had always dreamed of a snowy proposal and it didn’t snow last winter until that day! He then took me to a bridge in his hometown (Evart) to take some snowy pictures. That’s where he gave me a dozen gerber daisies (my favorite) and proposed to me on really cool rustic bridge! He always makes things so special for me 🙂

Megan’s response: ” I love AJ’s kind and loving heart. He always treats everyone with such love.”
AJ’s response: “How sweet she is. She’s always so caring and considerate of other people and tries to make everyone, even strangers, feel welcome.”

We always have a Friday night date night every week (It is such a good way to decompress from the week and spend time together)
We love to have board game nights with our friends! Go on walks together and play ultimate frisbee 🙂

Megan’s response: “My favorite part was walking down the aisle and seeing him at the end. I don’t think I looked at anyone else the whole way down! And at the reception it was amazing to talk to everyone and dance.”
AJ’s response: “When Megan walked down the aisle.”

The day was perfect other than we missed some people at the wedding due to the weather.

Before the wedding tip: Don’t stress, everything will get done! Wedding day tip: Take the time to take the day in! I keep saying it was the best and fastest day of my life. During the ceremony be mindful of everything that is going on because it is a powerful memory you will cherish.

We both went through college together and received our Bachelors degrees (his in Teaching and mine in Psychology) and I just started a Master’s of Occupational Therapy program at GVSU (yay OT!). But I would say our biggest accomplishment together is how great of a team we make!

I love when AJ surprises me with flowers for no reason!
