Do you have a studio?
Yes! Melissa has a gorgeous studio located in the historical Rose Street Market building in downtown Kalamazoo, MI. Her studio specializes in photography babies and young children in natural light. Melissa’s studio allows parents to come and relax and actually enjoy the process of getting their baby or children photographed in a fun and relaxed setting.
Melissa always prefers to shoot outdoors if the weather permits. She feels this allows her to offer her clients very unique personalized and custom photographic art. Since Melissa’s studio is located in downtown Kalamazoo, there are many fabulous locations to photograph within walking distance of the studio.
How would you describe your style?
Melissa’s style is fun, candid and colorful….just like our children. She loves to focus on the expressions and natural personalities of our children. Since every child and family is different, she does her best to photograph your style. Please know that Melissa asks for full creative discernment in her sessions. She is always open to suggestions, and prefers to meet with clients for a pre-consultation appointment to learn exactly what your expectations are, what type of photography you are looking for, and what your photographic art needs are such as sizes and shapes for your wall portrait(s).
How do I book a session?
Melissa takes a limited number of sessions each week. She is scheduling most sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Her evening sessions are on Tuesday and Thursdays only. These sessions fill up fast due to the popularity of these time slots. To officially book a session, Melissa asks for the session fee payment in full to seal your date and time. Melissa will send you an invoice through email and you can then pay by credit card to book your session on the date and time you and Melissa have agreed on. This session fee is NON-refundable. However, if you need to rescheduled, Melissa does her very best to accommodate, just remember her schedule is very tight. She allows for two cancellations and reschedule dates, if clients have more than two cancellations there is an addition $25 fee.
Do you do “Packages”?
Melissa does not require you to purchase a “package”. She does offer packages of her most popular products at a great value price. However, you may purchase ala carte. Her only requirement is that you place a $250 print order minimum. To learn more about her Session Prices and Print Pricing, please contact Melissa here. She will then give you all the information you will need to decide if you would like to book a session with her.
What happens after the session is over…how do I see the images?
When you scheduled and book your session, you will also be scheduling your View and Order Session. This ordering session is where you will see your images and then place your order at that time. We do offer an online gallery for one week AFTER the View and Order Session. This online gallery is for your extended family members that would like to purchase photographs. We do request a $15 deposit to open the online gallery. We will then give you a $15 coupon code for the online gallery. Melissa wants you to get your photographs as soon as possible. So your View and Order Session is scheduled one to two weeks after your session, and then your orders are ready for pickup usually within two weeks. She knows you can not wait to see your photographic art and she works very hard to get it in your hands and on your walls fast!
What kind of sessions do you offer?

What do you suggest we wear?
Be yourself and wear what is comfortable for you and your kids. Melissa loves colors. Some of her suggestions to think about are:
1. Shoes…have cute shoes or boots. They photograph so well. If you do not have cute shoes….go barefoot!! Melissa will almost always photograph babies and small children barefoot.
2. Color!! Melissa LOVES color. Colors photograph so well and Melissa recommends you dress in fun colors if that is your style. She can make your photographs just pop off the page if you are wearing great colored outfits.
3. Accessories….this is the “icing on the cake” in photographs. Cute hats, headbands, hair pieces, scarfs, layered outfits/jackets, jewelry, and shoes also fit in this category.
4. Props…Melissa uses props minimally. However, if you have a personal item you would like to bring to the shoots….please do. It will make the photograph all the more special and sentimental. Some suggestions are your sweet baby’s blanket, or teddy bear. Your child’s favorite truck or doll.
What kind of products do you offer?
Only the best! Melissa specializes in photographic art for your home. Photographic art is more than an 8×10 in a frame. She offers gorgeous gallery wrapped canvas prints that you will treasure and hang on your walls for a lifetime. She also offers custom made gorgeous albums, stand out mounted prints that look fabulous in a collage, super cute accordion mini albums, custom made cards (birth announcement and Christmas cards), and of course loose paper prints.
Do you sell the digital files?
Melissa knows that we all live in the “digital age” and how important digital files are to people….she loves them too! So she does allow her clients to purchase digital files. This is called the Ultimate Archival Collection, your edited digital images will come on a DVD and presented in a gorgeous personalized case. You will be given a print release to print these images at any size. Melissa will also give you a recommendation of where to have them printed to make sure you preserve the professionally editing that was done on the images.
