As baby photographers, one of our favorite things about One Year Sessions is the cake smash. What’s not to love about an adorable baby covered in frosting and experiencing sugar for the first time??
If you don’t know the first thing about cake smash sessions here are a few helpful tips:
A little practice never hurt.
Some babies are overwhelmed when they are suddenly placed in the spotlight and being cheered on by multiple adults to dig into a big cake. You can get them used to the idea by giving them a small cupcake at home to practice on. Also, your little one may be quite taken back by the sweetness of the frosting so we suggest getting a whipped or buttercream frosting with not as much sweetness.
Chose your cake carefully.
A small to medium sized cake is best with whipped or buttercream frosting, not fondant. Set the cake out so that it is room temperature for the session, and most importantly make sure your child doesn’t have any allergies.
Make it unique!
We love to customize each and every session! Your baby is unique, let us know what colors or theme you would like. The more personalized the session is the better.
We have many backdrop options, headbands, diaper covers, etc. Some fun props you might want to bring along are:
- a bow tie
- tutu
- onesie
- birthday hat
- special stuffed animal
- special book
